Insurance & liability

Every Heatherstone shipment is insured under our goods-in-transit policy. This page sets out the standard cover by tier, the optional uplifts you can buy, and how to make a claim if something goes wrong.

  1. 01Standard cover

Standard cover is included in the booking price for every shipment, with no excess. Cover applies from the moment the driver signs for the consignment until proof of delivery is captured.

    • Express courier: up to £2,500 per consignment
    • Pallet delivery: up to £5,000 per pallet
    • Temperature-controlled: up to £10,000 per consignment, including replacement value of perished goods
    • White-label: negotiated per SLA, typically £25,000+
  2. 02Optional uplift

Higher cover is available up to £100,000 per consignment, priced at 0.4% of the additional declared value. Uplifts must be arranged at the time of booking — they cannot be added retrospectively. For consignments above £100,000, contact our compliance team for a bespoke quote.

  3. 03Excluded items

Standard cover does not extend to: cash, bullion, precious metals, jewellery, antiques, fine art, or perishable food outside the temperature-controlled tier. These items can often still be carried under a bespoke arrangement with separate cover.

Indirect or consequential losses (loss of profit, business interruption, downstream contractual penalties) are excluded in all cases — this is industry-standard for goods-in-transit cover.

  4. 04Service-level credits

Cover and SLA credits are separate. If a shipment is late through our fault, we automatically credit the booking in full regardless of whether a claim is also raised. This is a service-quality commitment, not a substitute for insurance.

  5. 05How to make a claim

Email claims@heatherstone.example within seven days of the delivery date (or expected delivery date, if the shipment is lost). Include the booking reference, photographic evidence where applicable, and a brief description of the loss.

We acknowledge claims within one working day and aim to resolve straightforward cases within fourteen days. Complex cases involving the underwriter may take longer; we'll tell you up front if so.

  6. 06Underwriter

Goods-in-transit cover is underwritten by Caledonian Mutual, policy reference HSL-2026-GIT. A copy of the policy summary is available on request from our compliance team.

  7. 07Public liability

Heatherstone holds £10m of public liability cover. Certificate available on request — useful if you need it for a procurement process or insurer questionnaire.
